FIG Goals
In at least 5 sentences, explain some of the goals you would like to attain as a part of this FIG. This includes but is not limited to, what you expect to learn, what you would like to learn, what resources you would like to have that are relevant to your academic success, and how can this FIG equip you for a future in your career field. Please be thorough as my co-fac and I would love to tailor this class to your general interests and needs.

I think being in a FIG means making core relationships with fellow students and professors. I want to make these connections to help me later in the job market and when networking. I hope to also have fun and learn new ways to apply myself and learn new ways to study. I think we can attain these goals by taking the class outside of the classroom with character building activities and study groups. I know this is going to be a great semester and I'm sure we'll go over all of this anyway!
ReplyDeleteI hope that from my experience in the FIG I am more prepared to enter the years following my four years at Mizzou. Sometimes I feel like, especially in high school, we got cornered into focusing on the four years at hand and weren't exactly taught what to expect afterwards and how to be prepared for this. I hope that through the FIG I can learn how to effectively communicate with my professors as well as establish myself as authentic and competent, hopefully through some of the lessons that we will have. I would love to hear about how all of the FIG assignments pertain to the future and have the class help me to look forward. Also, I would like to be introduced to various resources on campus that can prepare me to succeed in these four years so I actually have something to be ready for when my time at Mizzou is done.
DeleteBy joining this FIG I wanted to make friends. I am a shy person and wouldn't normally go out of my way to meet people, so this class is nice for "breaking the ice" and meeting new people. I would like to be able to learn how to manage my time correctly while on the new college life time schedule. Succeeding in my classes is important to me and I feel like having a small group of people who are co-enrolled in a few of my classes, knowing them pretty well and having a safe environment to learn things and ask questions would be very beneficial to this success. I also feel that getting to know my professors would be of help to me too, so I'm glad that we have that assignment on meeting with one. Overall, I would like to be involved in the Mizzou community and grow as a student to become better than I am now...to have a good college experience.
ReplyDeleteI expect to learn a lot from this FIG class and look back on it as a valuable stepping stone for my transition into college life. I hope to be prepared for success in class with focus on writing and speaking; some of the most important parts of college life. Through this small class I hope to also gain friendships with many of the people I currently live with. This is a great way to meet people and develop a support system of friends with common interests. I hope this will help me break out of my shell and teach me things for my future career in journalism. Journalism is not exactly a profession that can mix with shy, it involves a lot of talking to people so hopefully this FIG will teach me a few things about meeting new people and speaking in front of them.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I expect to learn from this class. When I signed up for this it was with the expectation that I would be getting to know a lot of people with similar interests which would help me adjust to college. It would be helpful for all of us to talk about different ways of studying when we are preparing for exams. It would also be helpful to push us to explore out of our original comfort zones and to find new interests in addition to the our current interests. In the end I was really hoping that this class would make my transition to college more smooth.
ReplyDeleteI would like to learn a lot of tips for my future years in Missouri. I hope this FIG will open my eyes to all the resources that are available to us here. Also, I would like to establish myself with my writing and speaking skills. The FIG will be so helpful with academic as well as social aspects of college. I have already met so many great people and I cannot wait to build on these relationships through out the semester.
ReplyDeleteI hope that by being a part of this FIG, I will be able to learn the skills needed to succeed at Mizzou. In particular, I would like to learn more about time management and study skills. I believe that this FIG will be able to prepare me for success by ensuring a smoother transition to college than the typical freshman experience. I also hope that through this FIG, we students can create a community of support amongst each other. I haven't known my classmates too well since I canceled my dorm assignment, but I already feel welcome among them, more so than my other classes.
ReplyDeleteThe main reason I joined the Journalism and Communication FIG was to meet new people with similar interests as mine. Coming from Michigan, I only know one other person attending the University of Missouri. I believe that seeing familiar faces in three of your classes is comforting, especially in big lecture classes. I also think our FIG can discuss different ways on how to study for certain classes. In conclusion, being a part of this FIG will definitely help my transition into the college life.
ReplyDeleteI chose this FIG because I thought that it would be the best choice for my major. In this FIG I hope that the professors will be around regularly because currently I am not aware of the resources that are available to me. I would like to learn to become a better communicator and learn the benefits of communicating effectively with different demographics. I would also like to hone my writing skills. I believe that being an effective writer will certainly help me become the best writer that I can. I can not wait for our next meeting!
ReplyDeleteIn this FIG, I hope to learn about being a college student at Mizzou and how to succeed here academically. During this semester, I hope to become a better student and a better journalist. I want to acquire efficient study habits and learn professional writing techniques. I also hope to receive information about all the academic resources available on campus. Already, college is very overwhelming because we have so much free time and there are so many things to do! I hope to learn about ways to get involved around campus so that I make the most of my time here. Overall, I am glad to be part of a such a supportive community that will ease my transition to college life.
ReplyDeleteAs a member of this FIG, I hope to establish myself as a student at the University of MIssouri. I expect to learn how to have an overall better college experience that what I originally thought. I would like to learn just about anything I can and am open to all instruction. Something I think that would be a valuable asset to every college student, is a lesson in time management. Mizzou has so much to offer and I believe this FIG class is just one of the many things that will help all students grow into successful people.
ReplyDeleteI chose to be in this FIG because I wanted to be able to learn more about what my major has to offer. I also wanted to be able to be around and get to know people that have the same interests as me. I hope to learn how to become a better public speaker, as well as improve on my writing skills. I also hope to meet some of the Journalism professors and get to know them as well as I possibly can. I also hope to find out ways I can get involved around campus in Journalism clubs or any other fun activities I can do here at Mizzou. I am really glad to be a part of such a great FIG, with amazing people!
ReplyDeleteAs a member of this Journalism and Communications FIG, I plan to not only broaden my horizon in my intended career field, but also to develop the knowledge of how the power of the media is so crucial in society. Along with that, I would like to learn how to become a successful college student that can manage time, yet still have an enjoyable experience. I would like to have available resources that will enable me to find great techniques to studying for tests (especially finals), improve my writing skills, and become a more entertaining speaker. I believe that now apart of this FIG, I have the potential to reach these goals and to make some lifelong connections with others that are involved and interested in the same topics as myself.
ReplyDeleteThough I can’t pinpoint one specific reason, there are many reasons that I came all the way to Mizzou from Maryland. This FIG combines a few of the more ascertainable elements. I expect to learn about the important elements of not only journalism, though that is a major focus, but college life in general. I wish to broaden my perspectives here, in this FIG and in Missouri. I would like to learn how to become more aware of different areas, cultures, and use that knowledge to better serve me in the future. I would like, and can tell that I will have, a strong base of support in this FIG. My fellow FIG members, leaders, and professors seem more than willing to assist everybody’s progress and shine the way toward success. This FIG will equip me with a sense of community, a stronger sense of my own ability, and the education and knowledge necessary for future success in a field (journalism) that requires diligence, hard work, and patience.
